Lauricella Land Company announces the development and construction of the Elmwood Self Storage and Wine Cellar in the Elmwood Shopping Center. The new facility is centrally located within 15 minutes of Old Metairie, uptown, mid-city, downtown, Metairie lakefront, Harahan/River Ridge and the Westbank.
It will feature the latest in cutting edge technology. New Orleans’ largest and most unique climate controlled storage development will open its first phase in December with the balance complete by March 2004.
Located in a former furniture store at the corner of Mounes and Elmwood Park Boulevard in the Elmwood Shopping Center, the new facility will feature a specialty vault storage for gun collections, artwork, jewelry, heirlooms, precious metals and valuable documents with access controlled by biometric sensors. Further, this area will contain both custom built mahogany cabinets for firearms and steel safety deposit boxes, with dual keys, in larger hard-to-find sizes.
The Cellars, the only public wine storage facility in the city servicing commercial and residential clients, will feature custom built mahogany cubicles in 7 different sizes. It will have a redundant mechanical system, with a back up generator, for continuous control of proper humidity and temperature.
The entire storage facility will contain over 100 interior and exterior cameras connected to digital recorders, motion detectors and intercom/call boxes wired to the management office. These cameras are also tied to the facility’s central monitoring station and controlled by keypad access codes to allow entry during, before or after regular office hours. Furthermore, these keypads contain cameras to verify the identity of the entering party to help control unauthorized access.
The project will contain almost 215,000 total square feet with over 1,300 storage rooms with individual door alarms offered in 9 different sizes. The location will also feature a unique drive-through entry corridor. This provides covered access to all storage areas and all four elevators to further enhance the comfort of all clients. Louis Lauricella, Director of Development, says, “The idea of a first class storage experience unique to our metro New Orleans market was our motivation. All of our storage clients from the Cellars to the Vault to the climate controlled storage rooms will enjoy the latest technology and the industry’s foremost products and services.” Moreover, it will offer features specifically designed for small business owners including use of a free conference room, workstations with free high speed internet access, plus copy, fax, and shipping services. Additionally, managers will be able to accept packages for certain customers as well as coordinate other needed services.
Elmwood Self Storage and Wine Cellar, the first development of this type for Lauricella, will be open 7 days a week with projected office hours of 7am to 7pm, Monday – Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1-5 pm, but customers will be allowed access from 6am to 10 pm, 7 days a week. Business clients can be given 24 hour access if they meet certain criteria.
Target storage users will be small businesses, pharmaceutical sales reps, retailers with excess inventory, doctors, dentists, attorneys, accountants, insurance/mortgage companies or any other business/professional needing to store records they are required to keep for an extended period of time. Further, targets will include residential clients needing to store extra furniture, clothes, holiday decorations, etc. and those moving to or from a new home or apartment.
The facility will be managed by Universal Management Company, an industry leader in self storage management based in Atlanta. Construction financing is provided by Hibernia National Bank.
